Specimen Collection
Specimen collection used to be the “weak link” in drug testing. However, over the years, the DOT has tightened up regulations requiring education and training (and re-training) of CSPs (Collection Site Persons), STTs (Screening Test Technicians) and BATs (Breath Alcohol Technicians). Even for non-DOT related testing, these professional credentials should be the minimum evidence acceptable to the employer that the services you are paying for are being performed up to established standards.
Drug Screens Plus reviews every CCF (Custody & Control Form) as part of the medical review process and initiates (and follows through on) appropriate Error Correction Training when mistakes are documented in the specimen collection process.
Specimen collection is no longer the “weak link”…that dubious honor is now more likely to be bestowed upon poorly implemented employer policies and procedures (or lack thereof). For related information, see DER, C-SAPA, and Model Programs.
Drug Screens Plus clients can obtain help 24x7 with locating a collection site anywhere in the U.S. for complying with DOT post-accident drug/alcohol testing requirements. See the Members Only section of the web site or call the private pager # located on page 4 of Section 5, (Resources) in your Model Program.
To facilitate the cooperation of potential collection sites with whom you have no prior arrangements for service (e.g., for an un-anticipated post-accident drug/alcohol test in Bonedry, AZ), you may want to utilize our “Cab Pack” service. Enrolled Drug Screens Plus clients may contact the Random Services Coordinator (# below) to find out about the cab pack service.
During normal business hours, Drug Screens Plus clients can receive help locating a new collection site by calling 800-459-9012 ext 784. Often, a collection site will accommodate a TPA’s request to assist a client (e.g., for a single random or pre-employment test at a site you’ve never used before and probably will never use again), even when that same collection site might not accommodate that same client’s direct request. Collection sites may lose money on a single specimen collection (e.g., priced as a loss-leader to gain worker’s comp or other medical business). As a TPA, we are in a position to make referrals for the collection site’s primary business. So, don’t be bashful about asking for our help.
